Artificial Intelligence (AI) in schools: guidelines and guardrails: Guidance and exemplification for schools and other education settings on the safe and ethical use of AI in education.

Framework

At its heart, AICE.scot is a national community of educators, leaders, researchers and innovators working together to support Scotland’s education system in navigating the opportunities and challenges of AI. Our ambition is to foster collaboration, share evidence-informed practice, and ensure that AI enhances learning, teaching and assessment in ways that are ethical, inclusive and aligned with Scotland’s values.

Artificial Intelligence presents one of the greatest opportunities and responsibilities for education in a generation. As #AI continues to evolve, our focus must remain firmly on what matters most. That is improving learning, teaching and assessment while ensuring innovation is ethical, equitable and centred on the rights of every learner and that pupil’s are prepared for an AI-influenced life.

The following collaboration framework sets out the six interconnected areas that will underpin the work of AICE.scot. These areas fit into various stages of the wider AI and Digital Stack which is a broader piece of work exploring a how the overall education system can adapt to innovate and enhance education but still take into account the requirements of legislation, policy and organisational governance.

🔹 AI Literacy & Skills
🔹 Leadership & Strategy
🔹 Trust, Ethics & Safeguarding
🔹 Children’s Rights
🔹 Readiness, Evaluation & Improvement
🔹 Teaching, Learning & Innovation

These are underpinned by our commitment to Equality, Equity & Inclusion, recognising that responsible AI in education must benefit all learners and educators.
